Career
Pilgaonkar began his career as a young artist. He was to appear in Madhavrao Shinde’s Soonbai in 1961, but the plans did not materialise. He was cast in the Marathi film Ha Maza Marg Ekla at the age of 4. As a young actor, he acted in Dharmendra Meena Kumari with Majhli Didi. He has appeared in notable films like Jewel Thief, Chanda Aur Bijali, Brahmachari and Mela. He took up lead roles for a brief period with Rajshri Productions’ Geet Gaata Chal, for which he screened opposite Sarika. The couple worked for Balika Badhu in 1976, College Girl and Nadiya Ke Paar.
After the film Trishul, he turned to supporting roles and did superhit films like Sholay, Avtaar, Sur Sangam and Satte Pe Satta. In 1992 she directed Subhash Ghai’s Prem Deewane, Aisi Bhi Kya Jaldi Hai in 1996. In 2011 she directed and performed Jaana Pehchani. She appeared in Katyar Kaljat Ghusli in 2015.
Sachin, with Lakshikant Berde, Ashok Saraf and Mahesh Kothari formed a successful quartet, with several successful films in Marathi films in the 1980s and 1990s. He turned his attention to Indian television in the 1990s and directed the Hindi comedy Tu Your Main Main on Star Plus. Sachin hosted a show Rin 123 on DD Metro channel. In 2006, with his wife Supriya, he won the reality show Nach Baliye. He has hosted Hindi musical performances like Chalti ka Naam Antakshari and several other Marath film events and award ceremonies. In 2007 he started a new show on Zee Marathi, known as Eka Peksha Ek, based on dance, finding hidden skills in all regions of Maharashtra. He emerged as a judge in the reality comedy talent show Chhote Miyan in 2009 on TV Colors.
Pilgaonkar has been directing Marathi films since the 1980s. He started directing with the film Mai Baap in 1982. Other films like Gamma Jammat and Maza Pati Karodpati.
