Senator John Barrasso’s wife dies at 70 after two-year battle with brain cancer

The wife of Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) died Wednesday night of brain cancer, two years after she was diagnosed. She was 70 years old.

“After a courageous battle with cancer, Bobbi is now at peace and at home with the Lord,” Barrasso said in a statement.

“In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Bobbi was a leader, a strong supporter of Wyoming, and a friend to everyone she met. We miss her a lot. On behalf of our entire family, we thank everyone for her prayers and continued support as we remember her and grieve together.”

In 2003, Bobbi Barrasso was diagnosed with breast cancer, but made a full recovery after undergoing surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, and later became a founding member of the Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative.

Originally from Wyoming, Bobbi moved to Washington, D.C., after college and eventually worked for two of the state’s U.S. senators, Malcolm Wallop and Craig Thomas, the latter of whom died in 2007 and was replaced by Barrasso.

The couple married the following year in Thermopolis on January 1.

Bobbi, who was born in that city, served as president of the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra, where she helped organize concerts atop Casper Mountain, and as deputy director of the Wyoming Heritage Society and Foundation.

As the wife of a senator, she also maintained friendships with the wives of other legislators, American presidents and world leaders.
