Inga Rozka, an Instagrammer, has just visited Pushkar where she met a mehndi artist who shared the story. He made a video of her and uploaded it to her Instagram account with this caption:
“Gudiya, Jyoti and resilience.
We come across strangers every day, but do we have the courage to look another person in the eye? Do we have an open heart to hear her story?
Everyone has one.
Gudiya came to us with a smile and called us sisters. There was something else you could get besides a bracelet or a drawing on the hand.
Gudiya is my age. He has 4 children, and the youngest, Jyoti, is 6 months old. He lives in a town without electricity. His parents have passed away. Her husband is drinking and doesn’t help her much. But, she can’t leave him.
But she doesn’t complain. She tells her story as it is.
I had a lot of respect for her. She is not begging. She is putting effort and time into something and wakes up every day and does what is best for her family by going downtown to work.
While she drew, I thought.
What circumstances can you adapt to and still be a good human being? How much resilience are you capable of having to live like this?
What kind of life awaits you, baby Jyoti? Will he be able to get out of poverty? get a proper education? Do you see the world outside of your hometown and state?
But for now, he is sleeping peacefully in my friend’s arms in front of the Holy Lake in Pushkar while his mother tries to earn money for a living.
Jyoti means divine light. He will be cared for. His mother’s love can conquer anything in this life.
Their lives touch for a short period.
the same but so different
You walk away with a beautiful Mehendi that will remind you to appreciate what you have and inspire you to be a better person for others, no matter what you’re going through.”
There are numerous stories of people who work hard for a living in various parts of India and have shown incredible resilience and bravery. This American traveler shared an amazing story about a woman who makes henna designs. Inga Rozka, a masseur, posted a video on Instagram showing a woman named Gudiya applying mehndi to her hand in Pushkar. Gudiya’s son Jyoti is seen resting comfortably on Rozka’s friend’s lap.
