A Texas man faces manslaughter charges after allegedly killing his passenger in a drunken traffic accident outside Houston before breaking into a nearby home where he climbed into a bed and passed out.
Daniel Alexander Rodríguez-Olivares’ 2016 BMW went over a creek “at a very high speed” and slid about 500 feet before crashing into a fence belonging to a business Thursday morning around 3 a.m., the police said. Harris County Sheriff’s Office on a release.
The runaway vehicle crashed through several barricades and wooden fences and eventually fell into a retention ditch before overturning, leaving a female passenger seriously injured, authorities said.
Rodriguez-Olivares then exited his wrecked car and “forced entry into a nearby residence in an attempt to get help,” according to the statement.
“I imagine, very scary, at 3 in the morning, you hear what sounds like a horrible car accident and then glass breaks. It was probably very traumatic for them,” said Harris County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Sergeant. B Bondurant said, according to KHOU.
The homeowners woke up to the sound of breaking glass when Rodríguez-Olivares forced his way into their home.
Rodriguez-Olivares then exited his wrecked car and “forced his way into a nearby residence in an attempt to get help,” according to the statement. KPRC
Carlos Suarez told the outlet that he was afraid of what looked like a robbery until he found out there had been an accident outside. He said Rodriguez-Olivares screamed for help before passing out in his bed.
”’Help me, call the police. My wife is dead,’ something like that.” Suárez recalled that Rodríguez-Olivares screamed.
When authorities arrived, they found Rodríguez-Olivares unconscious inside the house and his female passenger dead in the rubble outside.
The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition and showed “signs of intoxication,” according to the statement.
Authorities have charged Rodríguez-Olivares with intoxication manslaughter.

Tommy Batterson, whose family business was damaged in the accident, said that while speeding was common on the road, he had never seen a collision like this before.
“There have been some police chases down the street and all that. It’s been a pretty, pretty crazy area,” Batterson said.
“It was a little different today when they jumped across the entire swamp, came from the other side of the cul-de-sac and got halfway down the block before hitting the fence and everything,” he added.
The accident remained under investigation.
