The jackpot for the multi-state Powerball lottery game rose to a staggering $1.4 billion this week after the 33rd consecutive drawing yielded no jackpot winners.
Whoever wins will be eligible for a lump sum payment of $643.7 million in cash, or more than $500 million, until the next drawing on October 7.
Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is now the third largest in history and the fifth largest in U.S. history. Lottery prizes surpassed the billion-dollar threshold four times in 2023, twice in Mega Millions and twice in Powerball.
“This is the first time in the history of the Powerball game that consecutive jackpot cycles have produced billion-dollar grand prizes,” Lottery CEO Eric Hagler said in a news release. “The Powerball jackpot was previously won for $1.08 billion on July 19.” Since then there have been 32 drawings in a row without a grand prize winner.”

According to a new report, Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots have broken records recently due to the ability for customers to purchase tickets online and the inclusion of an extra day.

The winning numbers for the October 4 drawing with a grand prize of $1.2 billion were 9, 35, 54, 63 and 64. The winning Powerball number was 1 and the Power Play number was 2. These numbers would have made a person into a millionaire.
The winning numbers in Wednesday’s Double Play drawing were 12, 30, 39, 64, 67 and Powerball 22. Play Double Play for extra money in 14 states, with the chance to win up to $10 million for $1 each play.
Although no one won the jackpot, ten players each won $1 million by matching the first five numbers on Wednesday. Two of the winners are from California and will each receive $1,220,123.

Three second-prize Power Play tickets were purchased for an additional $1 per play, tripling their rewards to $2 million. One ticket was sold in Kentucky, another in Pennsylvania and another in Texas.
In Wednesday’s drawing, 94 tickets won money by matching four white numbers and the Powerball, each winning $50,000.
Thirteen of the 94 tickets had the Power Play option selected, increasing their prize money to $100,000 each.
Additionally, 14 of the winning tickets were purchased in California, where the prize for this drawing was $17,500.
According to lottery officials, the anticipated Powerball jackpot has been up to $1.4 billion per annuity, with a cash value of $868 million, following Wednesday’s drawing.
