Amid the excitement and anticipation for the next Barbie movie, an interesting moment occurred on Twitter when a differently-abled user named Katie Pennick posted her “critical analysis” of Barbie’s wheelchair.
The Barbie movie, which stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as her boyfriend Ken, has already been called one of the most anticipated blockbusters of the season.

Katie, who uses a wheelchair to get around, posted her thoughts in a Twitter thread with the tag: “Barbie’s Wheelchair vs. My Real Wheelchair: A Critical Comparison. This is the best Twitter thread I’ve ever posted.”
She uploaded two photos in her tweet, one of a Barbie doll in a wheelchair and the other of herself in her wheelchair.
Katie began her comparison by pointing out that Barbie’s self-propelled manual wheelchair is made of lightweight plastic, which makes it easy to push but not as sturdy as she’d like.

He continued his assessment by pointing out the difference in wheel diameters between Barbie’s wheelchair and his own. She was amazed that Barbie’s larger wheels, which aid in efficiency while self-propelling, weren’t warped, which could increase stability and handling.
When Katie explained that her wheelchair is electrically assisted, with sensors in the push rims and batteries contained in the center hubs, the disparity between their wheelchairs became clear.

Katie emphasized the importance of thicker rubber wheels on her wheelchair to prevent her from tipping over on rough terrain. Katie couldn’t help but admire Barbie’s bold decision to carve her name into the back of her wheelchair.
However, she wondered aloud where Barbie kept her belongings because there was no visible bag. Katie expressed camaraderie with Barbie by commenting that neither of her wheelchairs have anti-tip wheels, implying that they are both willing to live life on the edge.
Barbie seemed to have an advantage in one area: her wheelchair’s scissor-lock feature, which Katie recognized was more effective than her push-pull mechanism due to the strength restrictions of her own hand.

She also mentioned Barbie’s footrests, which are incredibly low. Katie couldn’t help but scoff at Barbie’s lack of fenders, which seemed like an absurd choice.
Katie, on the other hand, proudly showed off her own pink fenders, which provide style and function. Katie liked Barbie’s rigid-frame chair for its stability and longevity, while she recognized the merits of her own folding chair, which allows her to comfortably transport it in cars and other modes of transportation.
