Pink flamingos are rich in symbolism, but in the US trailer park setting, the ornament can be used as a covert metaphor for sex. Nanci Dixon, a globetrotter, claimed in a new story for RV Travel that she was shocked when the hidden meaning of the pink flamingo was revealed to her.

He noted that waterfowl figurines are commonly used as lawn decorations at campgrounds to signal to other campers that you identify as a swinger. Nanci claims that the covert message they carry is “swinger camp here” and they are used to invite other couples to swap partners or have a quick fling while there.

Nanci recently discovered this while visiting an RV park when she overheard a strange exchange between campers and an on-site staff worker. The naive camp worker had casually remarked to the visitors that all they needed was a group of flamingos to liven up his plot. To their surprise, the couple instantly declared that they “don’t do that,” but the RV worker eventually figured out what the bird was referring to.

“Our neighbor then mentioned a hard-partying couple in a trailer park with a painting of his wife and a topless mermaid on the front of their coach,” Dixon wrote.

“hit me when the neighbor faw [sic] pink flamingos waving in the breeze on the beach in the man’s golf cart.”

The Miami Herald confirmed the phenomenon in June stating that the pink birds in her yard “suggest that the occupants of that house are identified and swingers.”

Pineapples aren’t the only symbol of swinger’s paradise, though, as they’re becoming increasingly popular with the camping community. TikTok users have previously discussed the sign on the platform, stating that the fruit is widely seen in hotels and cruise ships. Visitors may place a sticker outside their door to indicate to passersby that they are willing to receive a visitor.
