UCLA students hit Bibi’s piñata while chanting “Beat that damn Jew!”

Pro-Palestinian UCLA students were captured on video hitting a piñata with an image of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while chanting “Hit that damn Jew!”

A crowd of students gathered around the effigy on Wednesday to express their anger over Israel’s retaliatory strikes in Gaza following Hamas’ attack on the Jewish state on October 7, according to a clip posted on X.

Many of the protesters are seen wearing keffiyeh scarves on their heads and faces as they take turns hitting the spinning piñata amid loud chants.

“Beat that damned Jew!” a woman shouts into a megaphone as the crowd chants: “Free, free Palestine!”

Finally, a man grabs the piñata, hits it, and knocks it over, to loud cheers.

“I am horrified. This was @ucla today. This is indefensible. They will start hitting piñatas and end up hitting Jews,” wrote X user @AYM_Higher along with the clip.

The incident occurred at a demonstration organized by Students for Justice in Palestine, who gathered on campus to demand that the United States “end funding to Israel.”

They were joined by the UCLA chapter of the UC Divest Coalition, according to the Daily Bruin, which reported that the destroyed piñatas also featured a photo of President Biden.

The protesters chanted “Israel, Israel, you cannot hide, we accuse you of genocide!” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”

An SJP representative said he felt the actions of the Israel Defense Forces in the Gaza Strip amounted to genocide.

“The violence, the occupation and the killing of people in Gaza has been belligerent, it has been relentless,” the student, identified as Mohammad, told the school newspaper.

Rayane Koubaa, a Tunisian sophomore, said he attended the event to stand in solidarity with Palestinian students.

“Students are shaping the worldview right now,” he said. “This is a place for education and knowledge. “If we don’t take advantage of that and show support and just come together and express our opinions, no one will.”
