Birth and early life
Uday Pratap Saharan was born on December 8, 2004 in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. Uday’s father, Sanjeev Saharan, hoped that Uday would become a cricketer because that was his unfulfilled dream when he was younger. His father ran a cricket training place and took Uday there to practice.
He also made space at home for Uday to play cricket, where Uday began to learn the game. It was very cold in winter in Sri Ganganagar, up to 1 degree, but Uday always went to practice no matter how cold it was. Encouraged by his father, 11-year-old Uday moved from Sri Ganganagar to Fazilka in search of better cricket opportunities.
There he played for the under-14 and under-16 teams. Later, he again moved to Bathinda to join the under-19 team which had very good cricket facilities of the Punjab Cricket Association to help Uday improve in cricket.
Uday and his father traveled daily to Bathinda. After a year, Uday arrived at the Punjab U-14 team camp, so his father took him to Mohali, where he would be left without family for the first time. Just after leaving Uday and reaching Ludhiana, his father received a call from Uday who wanted to return home.
For a week his father put off going to look for him, and little by little, Uday began to enjoy the camp. Punjab team captain Mandeep Singh was impressed with Uday and gifted him a cricket bat after he performed well in a fitness test.
Career
In 2022, Uday was a substitute for the West Indies U-19 World Cup but did not play. After returning, he realized that he needed to improve his cricketing skills. He arrived home at 11 p.m., but was ready to practice again at 6 a.m. the next day.
In 2022, Uday captained the Indian team in the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup, where they reached the semi-finals. After good performances, scoring 297 runs in 5 games at an average of 99, Uday became captain of the Indian Under-19 cricket team.
