Khan paid the full sum the following Monday without hesitation.

“I only had one pound in my savings account and had set up a standing order to transfer £200 to my current account, although my savings account lacked the funds necessary for the transaction. I checked my bank when the money appeared and was shocked find 122,000 pounds,” he explained.

“The amazing thing is that not only did they deposit the money into my account, but they also allowed me to transfer it to my Barclays account,” he told the Daily Star.

Khan later discovered that the money was most likely destined for another client who had many accounts at the bank. “It appears that this individual has two accounts, Account A and Account B, and that the bank intended to transfer funds from Account A to Account B.”

However, it reached my account, which I will refer to as Account Z,” he explained. Mr Khan quickly returned the money after speaking to the bank.

“I could have been financially secure for life if I had decided to keep it,” he reflected, “but I would have kept it a secret.”

He said: “Even though they put me on hold three times, I took the initiative to inform them of the situation and assured them that there was no cause for concern. It took the bank a whole day to realize their mistake. Furthermore, I was able to transfer the funds to another account without requesting it, it just appeared in my account.”
