At a free Pride Month event in Reading, Pennsylvania, which is about 64 miles northwest of Philadelphia, the incident occurred Tuesday morning. Damon Atkins was seen on camera fighting with police patrolling near the event when he tried to shout out a verse from Corinthians. “Let them have their day,” the police officer told Atkins. honor it. “Do you know who is supporting us? The inhabitants of hell”, said the speaker. “Therefore, you make me you, and I will make me. This belongs to the public.
Atkins was reading a verse at the meeting when the police officer in the video moved quickly to get between him and the crowd before turning around to arrest him. “That does it. You’re finished,” the police officer said. Because the incident occurred on public property, Atkins claimed he was acting lawfully during the altercation. He was carrying a banner that read, “God said go and sin no more,” and was wearing a T-shirt that read: “You must be born again”, as shown in the video.

The event in Reading came amid a resurgence in right-wing opposition to the inclusion of LGBTQ+ people and communities in public life, which has been fanned by a small number of far-right online activists. Conservatives have called for boycotts of several well-known brands and businesses because of recent alliances with LGBTQ+ spokespersons or because they participate in Gay Pride celebrations in any way, including events and product lines. In a recent interview with MSNBC, University of Michigan economics and public policy professor Justin Wolfers said: “This is economic terrorism, literally terrorism, forcing corporations to sell the things you want, not selling the things you want. You do not want”.

He revealed that the man (Damon Atkins) “spread for about 10 minutes across the street” when police approached and warned him.
