WhatsApp now allows you to protect conversations with a secret code

Returning to its plan to strengthen the security of its messenger, WhatsApp has just made official the implementation of a new function that will allow users to protect their chats with a password.

This is “Chat Lock”, a prying eyes test, which will hide conversations unless the user enters a password in the application’s search bar.

The new chat blocking feature will soon be available to all users of the messaging application.

Given this, WhatsApp recommends users keep the application updated to the latest version to be able to enjoy the new feature.

The statement warns about the arrival of this function that will allow you to establish a more secure unlock code to keep certain conversations safe that are considered private.

“Now you can configure your blocked chats so that they only appear when you type the secret code in the search bar, so no one will be able to discover your most private conversations,” the company noted.

Steps to activate chat blocking

  • On Android devices, it is based on the fingerprint reader, the first thing to do is open the conversation that you want to protect and click on the name in the top bar to open the information window. There you will find the “Block chats” option right at the bottom of the screen.
  • Then you must check the option “Block this chat with fingerprint” and, once our identity is confirmed using the device’s biometrics, the chat will be completely protected.

It is important to note that, to use blocked WhatsApp chats, it is necessary to have previously configured fingerprints on the cell phone.

  • You will then see the message “This chat is now blocked.” From then on, notifications for new messages will not be displayed and the chat itself will not be displayed in the WhatsApp conversations list alongside the others.

This protection only applies to WhatsApp on the mobile device and does not extend to other devices, such as the version or the one for computers.

In early 2023, Meta launched its “Chat Blocking” feature, to hide them from the main interface. Now, users will be able to enter a code that only they can access or, failing that, those to whom they have given permission can do so.
