Woman refused to change seats with her mother on a plane
On a Delta flight from Ohio to California in the United States, a woman asked Tammy Nelson, CEO of global jewelry brand CONQUERing, to switch seats so she could sit near her two children. The second woman was already sitting in her window seat, according to Ms. Nelson’s TikTok video.
“I double checked my boarding pass, thinking I might have gotten in the wrong lane,” he told Newsweek. “When I confirmed that he was looking at the correct seat,” she said, “I thought he had mistakenly sat in the wrong seat. So I said, ‘I’m sorry, but it looks like you’re in my seat.’ ‘ hoping she would notice and move on.”
According to Ms Nelson, the woman was “shocked” and asked if she wanted to sit in that seat. According to Ms Nelson, “I was quite surprised by the question, but I responded by simply saying, ‘Yes, that’s the seat I selected.'”
The mother then explained that she was traveling with her two children, who were sitting next to her window seat. “Well, I thought we could change because these are my children,” she explained to Mrs. Nelson. Even if she didn’t “love that idea,” the jewelry company’s CEO said she understood it “as a mom.” She agreed to swap seats with the woman “as long as it’s a window seat.”

Then Ms. Nelson found out it was a middle seat and had to deny her request as she gets “motion sickness during take off and landing if I can’t see out the window”. Her mother, she claimed, became “very angry” and eventually sat back down. She was sitting next to her children, but she continued to spend “at least 15 minutes” complaining to a fellow traveler about the incident.
“The person she was complaining to very kindly said she could understand why she would want to sit together, but added that when she was in that situation, she always planned ahead to make sure her family was together by talking to the airline in advance or speaking to the gate agent,” said Ms. Nelson.
“As the woman continued to complain, the stranger added that it wasn’t really reasonable to ask someone to change seats when often those seats were chosen months in advance and many times the person even paid extra for their seat. selected,” she declared.
