Zandie Khumalo on the Meyiwa murder trial

Zandie Khumalo reiterated her position on her request for a media blackout, saying, “Whether there’s a camera on there or not, I’m just there to testify.” Regarding her request to prevent the media from airing her testimony during Senzo Meyiwa’s murder trial last month, singer Zandie Khumalo has spoken out. She claimed that she was only acting within the confines of her state witness privilege in an interview with eNCA. “This is a democratic country, I was just exercising my rights and I feel like even the court took like two days to plead guilty,” the defendant said. They determined that I was actually within my right to exercise that, so I’m not sure why it’s suddenly causing such a fuss that I do so since I live in a democratic nation.

In response to her petition, which ultimately fell through because Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela ruled that the audio content would still air, Zandie responded to the harsh abuse she had experienced on social media. “My family and I have tried to describe what happened in detail on every possible platform. However, it seems that they make their own decisions and choose what they listen to. I thought, “I don’t owe anyone anything right now because they’ve had their chance, and now the only people I need to testify before are just the courts.” So I said, “You’ve had your chance.” I’m just there to testify whether or not there’s a camera there. That’s all.

Meyiwa was a goalie for the Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana when he was shot dead in October 2014 during what was allegedly a botched robbery in front of his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, her mother Ntombi, her sister Zandie, Zandie’s boyfriend Longwe Twala, and Meyiwa’s friends, Mthokozisi Thwala and Tumelo Madlala. The slain footballer’s brother, Sfiso Meyiwa, told the Daily Sun that they had been anxiously awaiting the day the Khumalos would testify.
