The Android 14 update appears to have introduced a serious bug that exclusively affects Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a devices with multiple user profiles. After the update, some users lose all access to internal storage.
Affected users report various errors like “storage is full” or “system UI is not responding” despite the ample space. For some, random app crashes and messages about corrupted Android systems also occur.
The issue seems to be related to having multiple profiles. Switching to a secondary profile temporarily resolves this. Factory reset also fixes things but erases all local data. Deleting apps does not resolve false storage warnings.
No clear solution available yet, Google support offers little help
Frustratingly, no simple solution has emerged so far. Users say Google support offered no solutions beyond rebooting into unsafe mode before ending chats. Despite widespread complaints, Google has not acknowledged the Android 14 bug.
For affected users, options are limited. Changing profiles, resetting to factory settings, or waiting for Google to issue a patch are the only options to restore full functionality.
The error highlights possible problems in major operating system updates. Extensive testing should uncover such serious flaws before publication. That millions of loyal Pixel owners are now facing usability issues or data loss is unacceptable.
Google must recognize and directly address the problem. Reliability is paramount, especially during major Android version updates. Let’s hope a fix arrives quickly as the Pixel 6 series remains popular.
This storage issue illustrates that even tech titans like Google can overlook obvious problems. Allowing users to become unwitting beta testers for important bugs damages trust. Google should reevaluate its quality assurance process to restore trust.
