Couple’s ‘special’ wedding reception at McDonald’s wins hearts online

Pastor Speedwell Brasileiro and teaching student Ana Luiza Brasileiro were married in Goiânia, Brazil, in a civil ceremony. The church pastor and his girlfriend had their first dinner as a married couple at the fast food restaurant because it was their “special” place.

“It was a unique and strange experience for both of us; we were very happy,” Ana Luiza, 19, told local media. In the photos, Speedwell and Ana Luiza were seen ordering from a touch-screen menu and happily munching on their food with their arms linked.

The couple, both 27 years old, met in April of this year when Speedwell officiated at the Ana Luiza church. “We met through social networks, we planned a meeting and we started dating,” explained Ana Luiza.

Speedwell, who is also an online gospel singer, added: “Ever since we met, we’ve always come to McDonald’s.” The couple had planned a big wedding party with all their family and friends, but instead opted for a quiet civil ceremony and a trip to Maccas.

Speedwell explained: “We celebrated in an area that was meaningful to both of us. Seeing the enthusiasm of the people and their reaction when they saw us celebrating there was incredibly rewarding,” added Ana Luiza.

“I was very happy! It was a truly unforgettable experience.”

When did the couple meet?

In 2015, Elson Tong and Yong Yong Qing met at university. After almost seven years together, they decided to get married. The wedding took place on July 19 at the West Coast Park outlet.

Tong is an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while Qing is a senior associate at Changi Airport. When they told their families that they were getting married at a McDonald’s, they thought it was a joke and were baffled.

According to a recent article in The Straits Times, the couple spent approximately S$700 on food and venue. What a profitable wedding!
