Cyclists Bare It All During 13-Mile Philadelphia Naked Bike Ride: ‘Very Freeing Experience’

They followed the path. Not his clothes.

Hundreds of cyclists dressed up for a breezy ride down some of Philadelphia’s main streets on Saturday during the 14th annual Philadelphia Naked Bike Ride.

The eye-catching annual event started in 2009 and was revealed as an event to promote body positivity, cycling and reducing fossil fuels.

The event appears to encourage riders to go au natural (and organizers stress there are no restrictions) and participants can go as “naked as they dare” during the roughly 13-mile ride.

The often pants-less pilgrimage changes from year to year, but usually takes cyclists discovering it all on a quick ride through the city’s iconic landmarks.

This year’s route passed the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where its steps were featured in the “Rocky” movies, City Hall; Rittenhouse Square and the South Street entertainment area before ending at Independence Hall.

“One of the goals of the Philly Naked Bike Ride is to desexualize nudity and encourage everyone to accept nudity as a normal and enjoyable way of life,” says the event’s code of conduct.

“Following this policy will help further this goal and teach us all how to be better people overall.”

Many of the contestants agreed, including Garry J. Gadikian, who, like hundreds of other motorcyclists, chose to adorn his bare skin with body paint and glitter.

“It’s a very liberating experience, and definitely something you should do once in your life to have that freedom,” Gadikian, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, said during a pre-race briefing at Fairmount Park.

Other participants found the naked truth behind the event: the acceptance of their own bodies.

“It’s just about being comfortable in your own body and it’s okay to look at other people as well, compare or not compare or just see how other people are comfortable with their own bodies,” said Christopher Jordan, a rookie cyclist from New York City. York.

The participants were not limited to bicycles.

Scooters, electric bikes, rollerblades, rollerblades, skateboards, and racers were all welcome to show it all off in the City of Brotherly Love. The only thing that was not allowed, organizers said, was physical or sexual harassment.

Before the race began at 5pm on Saturday, the riders gathered to paint their bodies, often writing positive sayings on their bodies and covering themselves in glitter.

Unlike last year, event organizers did not hold an after party because the “capacity and nudity of the attraction make it difficult,” organizers said on social media.

Instead, they recommended riders prepare and dress well before heading out to support local bars and restaurants.

Although nudity is encouraged, sneakers are suggested for safety reasons.
