The grieving woman said her mother had struggled with homelessness.

“It didn’t matter that he was homeless, he was kind to everyone,” Dorris told the outlet.

The community has come together to raise money for funeral expenses.

“Many didn’t care about my mother, but knowing that in times like this, where we need our little community, people come out showing their support, donating, praying and sending kind words,” Dorris said.

“Honestly, it’s all I could ask for at a time like this,” he added. “I’m sure my mom is glowing knowing that even one person cared about her, let alone thousands.”

In an emotional Facebook post, Dorris expressed her love for her late mother.

“To my mother: I love you more than I ever expressed, I miss you more than you will ever imagine, and I pray that you are watching me and your grandchildren,” he wrote over the weekend.

“Please protect us. I’m so sorry this happened to you. I pray that you are at peace and that you are no longer struggling or suffering,” Dorris added.

The cause of death has not been determined pending an autopsy. It was unclear if the alligator killed Peckham or if she was already dead when he grabbed her body.

The mother and grandmother were previously arrested on July 14 for trespassing in county wetlands about a half-mile from where she was found dead, court records show. She pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor and was released from jail on September 8.
