Gardener Grows Nearly 20-Pound Onion That May Have Broken a World Record

This onion made him cry with joy.

A gardener from England brought a gigantic, nearly 20-pound onion to a flower show in North Yorkshire, and organizers believe the giant vegetable could set a world record.

Gareth Griffin’s bulky vegetable, which weighed 19.77 pounds, surpassed the previous record of 18.68 set in 2014.

Organizers of the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show, which runs until Sunday at Newby Hall & Gardens, posted the onion on their Instagram page, with a disclaimer stating that the feat is still pending review by Guinness World Records.

“I wonder how many onion rings you could make with this?” mused one cheeky Instagrammer.

Another joked: “I think I’d cry if I saw it!”

The prized onion can be found on display at the fair’s Incredible Edible Pavilion, along with other huge vegetables such as cabbage, cucumber and carrot.
