History of International Students Day
November 17, the anniversary of the Nazi takeover of a Prague university in 1939, is International Students’ Day. The Nazis closed the university, imprisoned nearly a thousand students, and killed and tortured several more. The goals of the day are to honor those children and draw attention to the issues facing our current generation. International Students’ Day began as a way for universities around the world to honor the more than 1,200 students at the University of Prague who lost their lives in World War II and celebrate the positive work these institutions do in their communities. local communities.
