London intruder in bulletproof vest, armed with sword and crossbows, shot dead by police: ‘Scary and strange’

A man armed with a sword, crossbows, a knife and an ax was shot dead by London police after he tried to break into a house on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old intruder was wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying two crossbows when he forced his way into the south London home shortly before 5am, according to the Metropolitan Police.

His motives for the invasion are unknown, but it is believed he knew one of the two people inside the house and was trying to harm them, according to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

In images obtained by The Guardian, a woman was heard screaming for help from inside the house.

“I’m afraid!” The woman screamed as loud bangs echoed through the house.

That’s when the officers invaded the place while shouting “Armed police!” from outside.

Officers “attempted unsuccessfully to speak to the man, who had managed to enter the property,” IOPC said, “but then called for help from armed officers after being threatened.”

The intruder was eventually shot dead by two police officers.
