Pastor’s 3-year-old son accidentally shoots his 2-year-old brother with his father’s gun outside church

The 3-year-old son of a North Carolina pastor accidentally shot his 2-year-old brother in the head with his father’s gun in a church parking lot and is miraculously expected to make a full recovery.

Sunday outside River Valley Baptist Church in Morganton, a city about 75 miles northwest of Charlotte.

The church’s pastor, the Rev. Adam Vines, told WBTV that his oldest son had gotten a gun in the side door of the family’s parked van and accidentally fired the gun, wounding his younger brother, Daniel Vines.

The Vines family was attending an evening church service at the time of the shooting.

Vines said fortunately the bullet did not go through her son’s brain and he was able to talk and move.

“It went behind the ear, but it went through the bottom corner, instead of through the brain,” said the pastor, a father of five.

Daniel was flown by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he underwent emergency surgery and was in stable condition Monday, according to his father.

“We’re lucky it wasn’t as bad of a damage as originally thought,” Vines said, adding that Daniel is expected to make a full recovery, but will need therapy.

The pastor also said his eldest son who fired the gun was “in shock.”
