After their time in the hot tub, participants experienced a remarkable 345% average increase in blood flow to their legs, which is comparable to the effect of a 30-minute jog, according to the researchers.

After spending time in the hot tub, participants’ heart rates were equivalent to those of people who had walked briskly, averaging 31 beats per minute.

In addition to lowering blood pressure, the hot tub experience caused a 22% decrease in levels of cortisol, the hormone responsible for controlling stress in the body.

Possibly as a result of decreased cortisol, 10% of participants reported feeling less anxious overall. Dr Mariyam Hassan Malik, who was not involved in the Coventry research, highlighted that hot tubs have a muscle-relaxing effect and stimulate the release of endorphins, which help reduce stress.
