In the last hours it was announced that Marina Machete will be the representative of Portugal in the Miss Universe 2023 to be held in El Salvador.
The election of Marina Machete has caused a sensation as she is the first transgender woman to achieve this title in the European country.
Machete is a stewardess by profession, 28 years old, and claims to be happy for her achievement in the event that took place in the Évora region, in the southeast of Portugal.

Miss Portugal will also compete against another transgender woman and is the representative of the Netherlands, 22-year-old Rikkie Valerie Kollé.
“Proud to be the first trans woman to compete for the title of Miss Universe Portugal,” she wrote on social media before winning the beauty pageant.

“For years it was not possible for me to participate and today I am proud to be part of this incredible group of finalists” competing for the title of Miss Portugal, she added.
Both will succeed the Spanish Ángela Ponce, the first transgender candidate for the Miss Universe title in 2018.

The 72nd edition of Miss Universe will take place on November 18 in the city of San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador.
