Sai Tamhankar was born on June 25, 1986 in the Sangli region of Maharashtra. Her father’s name is Nand Kumar Tamhankar and her mother’s name is Mrunalini Tamhankar. She has two siblings, a brother named Sachin Gaurav and a sister. She enrolled in a university, where she acted for the first time in a play. Developing her interest in theater, she participated in inter-university street plays. However, her performance in the play Adhure Adhure was highly appreciated. Later, Ella Sai moved to Mumbai and also took up a hotel management course.

Sai was offered to play a role in a popular Marathi comedy, Ya Gojirvanya Gharat. The actress became a household name for her comedy role and became the star of Marathi television serials like Agni Sikha, Sathi Re and Kasturi.
Movie
Sai made his big screen debut with Subhash Ghai’s Hindi film Black & White in 2008. However, he made his debut in Marathi cinema the same year with the film Sanai Chowghade directed by Rajeev Patil. The following year, she also appeared in AR Murgadoss’ film Ghajini, starring Aamir Khan. From 2009 to 2012, she appeared in Marathi films like Be Dune Saade Char, Ajab Lagnachi Gajab Gosht, Lalbagh Paral, Rita and No Entry Pudhe Dhoka Aahe, which is a remake of the well-known Bollywood film No Entry.
Sai continued to deliver powerful performances in films like Pune 52 (2013), Duniyadari (2013) and Time Please (2013). In 2015, she directed one of her best Bollywood roles in Hunter, also starring Gulshan Devaiah. Her 2016 releases include; Marathi movies viz. YZ, Jaudya Na Balasaheb, Family Katta, Vazandar and Rakshas. Her 2019 release includes Girlfriend. Her 2020 releases include Cookie and Ashleel Udyog Mitra Mandal.
