A 19-year-old man faces a slew of charges in the death of Massachusetts high school lacrosse star Sadie Mauro, who was killed when the boat she was riding in crashed into a pier over the summer, prosecutors said on Thursday. Tuesday.
David K. Sullivan, of Medfield, Massachusetts, has been accused of drunkenly driving the boat before it crashed and ejected the high school senior in a Cape Cod harbor, according to the Cape District Attorney & Islands, Robert Galibois.
The Dover-Sherborn High School student disappeared in Sesuit Harbor around 9 p.m. on July 21. Her body was later found on a nearby beach 90 minutes after the violent collision.

The charges against Sullivan include death of a person caused by operating a vessel/vessel under the influence of intoxicating liquors, two counts of operating a vessel under the influence of intoxication causing serious bodily injury, and reckless or negligent operation of a vessel causing caused death.

Sullivan was formally charged in the high-profile case on Friday after an investigation was opened in August.
“The District Attorney wishes to express his deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased 17-year-old,” the office said in a statement.

“Sadie’s smile could light up a room, she had a heart of gold and the sweetest spirit,” Dover-Sherborn High School Principal John Smith said in an earlier letter to the community following Mauro’s death.
