Presidential hopeful Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) was taken aback by President Biden’s bizarre statement during a news conference in Hanoi, Vietnam, over the weekend, where Biden, 80, told journalists: “I’m going to bed.” .”
“Well, TMI: too much information, number one. Number two, the synapses are not firing as fast as we need them to,” Scott said on Fox News Monday as he shook his head.
Biden’s telling joke about taking a nap came in response to a question about why he hasn’t spoken to Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
“I tell you what, I don’t know about you, but I’m going to bed,” Biden joked at the time.
Scott wasn’t happy about the nap.
“What we saw there was just embarrassing to the county,” Scott added. “I compare it again to the times we’ve seen if he’s stumbling… we need a president who is prepared to lead.”

Biden’s jarring news conference came on the heels of the multi-day Group of 20 summit in New Delhi, India, where he took advantage of the absences of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Xi.
The president answered some questions during the international press event and dusted off some unique phrases.
“The Indian looks at John Wayne and points at the Union soldier and says, ‘That’s a lying, dog-faced pony soldier!’” Biden at one point responded to a question about climate change.
“Well, there are a lot of lying, dog-faced soldiers about global warming,” he added.
Conservative critics criticized Biden for the spectacle.
Scott maintained that Biden’s “incompetence” has fueled his “dereliction of duty” and said it is “time for strong new leadership.”
“What we see time and time again is a president who appears to be fumbling the ball too close to the goal line,” Scott added.
Biden’s news conference appeared to be abruptly interrupted by an aide who interrupted and announced it was over while the president spoke mid-sentence.

Other Republicans also criticized Biden for the ordeal.
“Biden is compromised, mentally weak, and too incompetent to govern the United States,” Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) said in a statement.
Mills also criticized Biden for emphasizing that his departure from the G20 was not part of an effort to contain China.
“He made numerous comments about wanting China to have a strong economy, not supporting any decoupling from U.S. dependence, and building railroads overseas to advance other nations economically,” Mills added.
Biden’s stop in Vietnam underscored his administration’s view that Hanoi is becoming an increasingly valuable U.S. ally in Asia amid bitter tensions with China.
On Monday, Biden arrived in Alaska, where he celebrated the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attack.
The president has drawn criticism from 9/11 family members for not visiting the crash site on the 22nd anniversary of the atrocity.
Scott is a distant seventh nationally among 2024 Republican candidates in the latest polling aggregate from RealClearPolitics.
Former President Donald Trump is well ahead on the Republican side, while Biden has a foothold in the primaries to be the standard bearer of the Democratic party.
