The Atlanta special prosecutor who brought election interference charges against Donald Trump reached a temporary divorce deal with his ex-wife on Tuesday, meaning he likely won’t have to testify in court about his alleged affair with his chief district attorney. .
The deal automatically canceled a hearing scheduled for Wednesday in which Nathan Wade was expected to answer about his relationship with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
It also means Willis will likely avoid testifying in the case.
Wade and Willis’ alleged romantic relationship was first exposed in a Jan. 8 election fraud case filing by defendant Michael Roman.
Wade had filed for divorce from his wife of 26 years, Joycelyn, on Nov. 1, 2021, a day after Willis appointed him special prosecutor. Roman alleged in his introduction that they were already in a relationship at the time.
Joycelyn’s explosive court documents appeared to confirm Wade’s relationship with her boss when credit card statements from 2022 and 2023 filed in court showed her ex-husband paying for plane tickets for him and Willis to head to California and Florida, followed by positions on cruise ships. and in luxury hotels.

Cobb County Superior Court Judge Henry Thompson granted the temporary divorce settlement, noting that Wade and Joycelyn agreed to its terms. However, the conditions would not be presented to the court.
In a statement, Joycelyn Wade’s lawyers celebrated that an agreement had “finally” been reached.
“While this negates the immediate need for a hearing, it does not resolve the case,” Andrea Hastings said.
“Now that our client has the financial resources to support herself while this case is pending, we are focused on the hard work of moving the case toward resolution, whether through settlement or trial.
“We continue to work to obtain information from Mr. Wade to ensure the couple’s assets are appropriately divided after more than twenty-six years of marriage.”
Willis has until Friday to respond to Roman’s motion to dismiss the election interference case, which claimed her “improper” relationship with Wade presented a professional conflict of interest.

Although he did not provide any evidence with his filing, he cited Wade’s divorce file as containing the evidence.
Joycelyn Wade’s lawyers claimed her husband withheld money from her while she spent lavishly on vacations and cruises she took with Willis.
Roman’s legal argument was that Wade used funds paid to her by the Fulton County Prosecutor’s Office for her personal trips with Willis, amounting to a misuse of county funds since she benefited from one of the people he employed.
Willis is being investigated by the audit committee of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners for possible “misuse” of taxpayer funds.
The district attorney had previously described Wade as his mentor. However, they began working together in late 2021, when she hired him to oversee the election fraud case brought against Trump and 18 co-defendants.
Trump and the remaining 14 co-defendants in the case have pleaded not guilty.
That case has not yet been scheduled for trial.
