Elon Musk restored the Twitter account of former President Donald Trump on Saturday night.
“The conversation is over. Trump will get his job back. Vox Populi, Vox Dei is a Latin term meaning “the voice of the people, the voice of God,” Musk wrote on Twitter.
However, Donald Trump said on Saturday that he had no interest in returning to Twitter.
Musk asked Twitter users if he should unban the former president in a vote he posted online Friday, and Trump’s account was reinstated as a result. Trump urged his supporters to support him in the poll, which he ultimately won, in a post on his own social media platform, Truth Social.

In total, 51.8% of users finally chose yes, while 48.2% chose no. Trump’s follower count appears to have been reset and it is unknown if more users will be added. Trump’s platform, Truth Social, is also dealing with legal issues. According to a whistleblower who reported the matter to authorities, Trump Media & Technology Group, which acts as the platform’s parent company, made “fraudulent misrepresentations” to generate money.
Musk previously claimed that Twitter was unfairly restricting free speech, causing observers to fear that under his leadership, hate speech and misinformation could flourish despite the fact that Twitter already monitors and moderates such content.
