Uttara Baokar was an acclaimed Indian stage, film and television actress. She made her mark in the industry by starring in several notable works like Mena in Mena Gurjari, the mother in playwright Girish Karnad’s Tughlaq, Padmavati in Mukyhamantri, the nautch girl in Chhote and many more. In 1978, Ella Uttara directed Jaywant Dalvi’s play Sandhya Chhaya, an adaptation of the original play in Hindi translation by Kusum Kumar. Uttara Baokar, a beloved figure in the Indian community, passed away on April 12, 2023 at the age of 79.
Uttara was best known for her prolific career in Marathi films, appearing in classics such as Doghi (1995), Uttarayan (2005), Restaurant (2006) and Shevri (2006). Uttara is a renowned Indian film and theater actor who studied at the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi under Ebrahim Alkazi. He graduated in 1968 and became one of the most prolific actresses in both theater and film.
